Perhaps further than on anything else.
This seems to be true in nearly every discipline, but I'm sure there are exceptions.
Learning and mastering fundamentals when picking up a new skill seems to skyrocket your ability quickly, whilst keeping complexity of learning low.
I could swear that fundamentals are the pareto of their discipline? (in terms of skill gained per unit of learning effort).
So if I wanted to be above average in a skill with least amount of possible effort, just mastering the fundamentals seems to be the pathway.
